If footage.repair can't open your file, the first 50 MB is usually all I need to work out how the camera wrote it. This page cuts that piece for you, right here in your browser — no terminal needed, and nothing is uploaded. Then you just attach the small piece to an email.
Your file looks empty from start to finish (all zeros) — there's no video data in it to send. If the memory card hasn't been formatted, don't reuse it yet and email me — the footage may still be on the card itself.
Download the 50 MB pieceThe start of your file is empty (all zeros), so this piece begins at {mb} MB, where the data starts.
This file is smaller than 50 MB, so the piece is the whole file.
Attach the piece you just downloaded to an email and send it to brian@footage.repair. A line saying which camera it came from helps.
50 MB is over some mail providers' attachment limit. Gmail turns it into a Drive link automatically; if your email refuses it, send a WeTransfer or Google Drive link to the same address instead.
Open an emailCutting the piece happens on your own computer — the original file never leaves it, and nothing is sent until you attach it yourself. Be aware the piece is real footage: 50 MB is roughly the first second at 4K, or a few seconds at lower bitrates, so anything in that opening shot is visible. I only use it to work out the file's structure.
