Sony A6700 RSV & MP4 recovery

The A6700 records to a single SD card, so when the battery runs out or the card comes out mid-take there's no second copy — just an .RSV file or an .MP4 that won't open.

What you're probably looking at

A clip named like C0012.RSV in PRIVATE/M4ROOT/CLIP, or an .MP4 that's the right size but won't open anywhere. Either way the camera wrote the footage — it just never got to write the index at the end that tells a player where each frame is.

Recovered here: XAVC S and XAVC HS recordings from the A6700.

How the recovery works

Sony writes video, audio and timing metadata in a fixed repeating pattern, and the codec settings travel inside that metadata. footage.repair walks that pattern frame by frame and writes a fresh index, so audio stays in sync even on recordings several hours long. No reference clip is needed, and nothing is re-encoded — you get back exactly what the camera recorded.

Before you start

Copy the whole card to your computer first and work from the copy. Don't format the card or record over it until you've checked that the recovered file plays.

What it costs

The preview is always free. During early access, full recovery is free for every file size too. If the recovered file doesn't play, email me at brian@footage.repair.
