Panasonic .MDT recovery

LUMIX cameras (GH5S and similar) sometimes leave behind a .mdt file instead of a finished .MOV — a cut recording from a battery pull, a card swap mid-take, or a crash. The footage is still on the card. It's just missing the piece that tells a player how to read it back.

Drop the file in your browser. Preview in seconds. Nothing uploads.

How the .mdt recovery works

LUMIX .mdt files carry H.264 video (often 4:2:2 10-bit) and uncompressed twos PCM audio, cut off mid-write with no index telling a player where the frames are. The data itself is intact — it's rebuilt by walking the file's own structure rather than guessing.

One thing .mdt needs that Sony's formats don't: a short donor clip — a normal, working recording from the same camera and settings — to supply the codec parameters the cut file lost. A few seconds is enough, and it isn't uploaded either.

Tested models

LUMIX GH5S and similar bodies that write .mdt for interrupted recordings. If yours isn't listed, drop the file in anyway — the preview is free to try either way.
